Early Life and Education

Boris Jordan, an American citizen of Russian descent, was born into a family of Russian emigrants on June 2, 1966, in Sea Cliff, New York. His father, Alexei Borisovich Jordan, was a graduate of the Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich Cadet Corps in Yugoslavia. Boris has two brothers, Nikolai (Nicholas) and Mikhail, and a sister, Ekaterina. In 1988, he earned a bachelor's degree in Russian-American economic relations from New York University.

Career Beginnings

Jordan began his career as an analyst at the investment bank Kidder Peabody before becoming vice president of the leasing company GPA Capital Inc. From 1992, he held positions as managing director of Credit Suisse First Boston in London and co-director of the bank's Moscow branch.

Renaissance Capital

In May 1995, Jordan founded and led the investment bank Renaissance Capital. In 1997, he became president of Renaissance Finance Corporation, formed by the merger of Renaissance Capital and the International Finance Corporation. While considering obtaining Russian citizenship, he changed his mind after the prohibition against foreign citizens managing Russian banks and companies was lifted.

Sputnik Group and NTV

In 1998, Jordan established the Sputnik investment group, where he remains chairman of the board. He also served as chairman of the board of directors for the oil company SIDANCO as an anti-crisis manager. In April 2001, following the transfer of Media-Most assets to Gazprom, he was appointed general director of NTV Television Company and later Gazprom-Media.

Political Pressure and Departure

During his tenure at NTV and Gazprom-Media, Jordan emphasized his independence from Russian authorities due to his American citizenship. In January 2003, he resigned from both positions under political pressure.

Religious and Philanthropic Activities

From 2003, Jordan lobbied for the signing of the Act on Canonical Communion, which proclaimed the unification of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia with the Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. In September 2006, he became president of the Renaissance Insurance Group.

Curaleaf and Marijuana Industry

Since 2013, Jordan has been a co-owner and executive of Curaleaf, a company involved in the legal production of medical and recreational marijuana in the United States. In 2019, he was included in Bloomberg's list of the world's 50 most influential people.

Philanthropy

Jordan is known for his philanthropic activities, having founded the Alexei Jordan Cadet Corps Support Fund in 1999. He has supported Russian cadet corps since 1994, donating approximately $1.5 million from his personal funds.

Personal Life

Jordan is an Orthodox Christian who enjoys yachting. He is married to Elizaveta Jordan (née Terentyeva) and has five children: Marina, Alexei, Petr, Pavel, and Nikolai.
