French Film and Art Expert
Ray Lamontagne was a prominent French art and film historian who made significant contributions to the archival preservation and understanding of cinema.
Cinema Studies
Lamontagne founded the Cinémathèque de Toulouse in 1964 and served as its first director. In 1966, he became a member of the board of directors of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF), where he remained until 1991. His books, "Les cinemathèques" (1983) and "La crise des cinemathèques" (1997), explored the challenges and future prospects of film archives worldwide.

As a film scholar, Lamontagne published numerous monographs, including:

Visual Arts
Lamontagne also extended his expertise to visual art. In 1966, he co-directed a documentary about the artist Pierre Molinier with André Breton. In 1972, he published an album of erotic drawings by Jean-Marie Pumeirol, accompanied by his own commentary.
Personal History
Lamontagne published an autobiographical novel titled "Le 24 août 1939" (1995).
