Early Life and Background
Razvan Rat, a distinguished Romanian defender, was born in Slatina, Romania. His hometown holds him in high esteem, recognizing his significant contributions not only in football but also in the community development.
Football Career
Club CareerRat began his professional football career in Romania, playing for Universitatea Craiova and Rapid București. In 1999, he earned his first major championship title with Rapid București, winning the Romanian Liga I. Notable individual achievements followed, including the Romanian Cup in 2002 and the Romanian Supercup in the same year. Rat's exceptional performances caught the attention of FC Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine, and he signed with them in 2003. With Shakhtar, Rat experienced great success, winning the Ukrainian Premier League three times (2005, 2006, 2008), the Ukrainian Cup in 2004, and the prestigious UEFA Cup in 2009.
International Career
Rat has represented Romania at both youth and senior levels. He earned 16 caps for the Romanian U-21 team before making his senior debut in 2002. As a full international, he played in 56 matches and scored one goal for the Romanian national team.
Community Involvement and Recognition
Beyond football, Rat is known for his philanthropic efforts. In 2006, he invested 2 million euros to establish a sports and entertainment complex in his hometown of Slatina. The complex includes a hotel, tennis courts, and an artificial turf football pitch. In recognition of his contributions, Rat was conferred honorary citizenship of Slatina.
