Regina Devīte: A Latvian Actress with Soviet Roots

Early Life and Education

Regina Devīte was born on January 18, 1956, in the Shimanovsky district of the Amur region of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR). Her family, who were of Latvian descent, had been exiled there.

Devīte completed her secondary education at the Valmiera Secondary School No. 4 in 1974. She then pursued a degree at the Riga Technical College of Culture and Education, graduating in 1977. In 1985, she obtained a diploma from the State Institute of Theatre Arts in Moscow.

Theatre Career

Devīte began her acting career in 1978 at the Valmiera Theatre, which was then known as the Valmiera State Drama Theatre named after L. Paegles. She has been an active member of the theatre company ever since.

Film Appearance

In 1982, Devīte made her cinematic debut in the film "The Personal Life of Santa Claus" directed by Andris Rozenbergs. She played one of the lead roles in the film.
