Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu: Biography of the Korn Bassist

Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu, born on November 2, 1969, is best known as the bassist of the American nu metal band, Korn. However, his musical journey began before Korn, when he co-founded the band L.A.P.D. with Richard Morrill, Munky, and David Silveria, who later joined Fieldy as the founding members of Korn. L.A.P.D. stood for "Love And Peace, Dude."

Fieldy's nickname, "Fieldy," originated from the comic character Garfield, as the other band members initially called him "Gopher" due to the size of his cheeks. The nickname gradually transformed into "Garf" and then "Garfield." His full nickname, "Fieldy Snuts," can also be interpreted as "Feel these nuts" or "Fieldy's nuts." Interestingly, Fieldy's record label shares the same name.

Unique Bass Style and Equipment

Fieldy is known for his unique style of playing the 5-string Ibanez SDGR SR5005 bass guitar, also known as the K-5, which is his signature model. The bass strings are tuned a whole step lower (A D G C F), giving Korn their distinctive low-end sound. Fieldy's playing style resembles that of a drummer or percussionist, rather than a traditional bassist. In fact, he often refers to himself as a "drummer on bass."

Being the only left-handed member in Korn, Fieldy plays the bass as if he were right-handed. Most of his bass lines are influenced by hip-hop, as he draws inspiration from various aspects of the genre. Fieldy also manages the merchandise sales for Korn, from procurement to sales. He designs sketches and consults with the band to finalize them. Additionally, Fieldy has come up with the names for all of Korn's albums.

Side Projects and Personal Life

During Korn's visit to Jacksonville, Florida, they met Fred Durst, who was working as a tattoo artist at the time. Durst introduced them to a demo recording of Limp Bizkit, which impressed Fieldy and Munky. They passed the tape to their producer, Ross Robinson, who was also impressed and went on to produce Limp Bizkit's debut album, "Three Dollar Bill, Yall$."

Aside from Korn, Fieldy has his own rap project called Fieldy's Dreams. He has already released one album, "Rock'n Roll Gangster," and is working on a second album. The release date for the new album is yet to be announced as Fieldy is currently fully focused on Korn.

Fieldy married his girlfriend, Dena Beber, on May 16, 2006. This was his second marriage and her first. Fieldy has two daughters, Serrina and Olivia Arvizu, from his previous marriage to Shela Arvizu. They welcomed a son named Israel this year.

In 2005, Metal Hammer magazine named Fieldy as Bassist of the Year. Currently, Fieldy collaborates with independent rapper Q Unique, Sevendust, Dark New Day, and guitarist Clint Lowery in a side project called "Capital Q." Their song "Killing Myself To Live" can be heard on their MySpace page, although the release date for the full album is still unknown.

After guitarist Head left the band, Fieldy made the decision to quit alcohol and other drugs independently and turned against Christianity.
