Regis Philbin, known as the national television treasure of America, was born in 1931 in New York City. He comes from a mixed heritage, with Albanian-Greek-Italian blood from his mother and Irish blood from his father. Philbin was the first child in his family to graduate from a Catholic boys' school in the Bronx, and he went on to study sociology at the University of Notre Dame. After serving in the Navy and working in various roles in Hollywood, Philbin found his way to television.

Philbin's first show was 'The Regis Philbin Show' in San Diego, California.
