Karl Ludwig Struve
Karl Ludwig Struve was a German philologist and professor at Leipzig University. Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to the study of ancient literature and linguistics.
Critical Editions
Struve played a pivotal role in the preparation of critical editions of various classical works, including those by Lucian, Clement of Alexandria, Euripides, Cicero, and Cato the Elder. His meticulous approach ensured the accuracy and accessibility of these texts to future generations of scholars.
Handbooks and Dictionary
Struve's expertise extended to the authorship of two comprehensive handbooks: "Handbuch der lat. Litteraturgeschichte" (1846) and "Handbuch der lat. Stitistik" (1874). These works provided invaluable insights into Latin literature and history, becoming essential references for students and scholars. Additionally, Struve published a Latin dictionary in Braunschweig between 1833 and 1857, facilitating the study and understanding of the language.
Uncompleted Work
Despite his prolific output, Struve's magnum opus, "Handbuch der lat. Litteraturgeschichte," remained unfinished at the time of his death. This work aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of Latin literature, but its untimely end left a lasting void in the field.
