Early Life and Education

Born to a working-class family in Tashkent, Uzbekistan (or in the village of Srednee Baltayevo, Tatarstan, according to some sources), Rem Abzalov received his initial education at a madrasah while working on a collective farm. He later moved to Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, where he attended preparatory courses for workers before becoming a factory worker. In 1936, he completed courses at the regional school for trade union movement.

Military Service and World War II

Abzalov was conscripted into the Red Army in the late 1930s and participated in the Soviet-Finnish Winter War (1939-1940). After demobilization, he worked as the chairman of the factory committee at the Kazan Aviation Plant before enrolling in preparatory courses at Kazan State University and joining the Communist Party in 1941.

In 1942, he was drafted back into the Red Army and trained as a political officer. He fought in the Great Patriotic War from 1942 onwards, participating in battles in Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, and Hungary.

Crossing the Danube and Heroism

On December 1, 1944, as a senior lieutenant in command of a company of the 116th Guards Rifle Regiment, Abzalov led his unit in crossing the Danube River near the village of Dunapataj in Hungary. The company destroyed approximately 100 enemy soldiers and captured 145 prisoners of war during the capture of a beachhead.

For his exceptional leadership and bravery, Abzalov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on March 24, 1945.

Post-War Career and Later Life

After the war, Abzalov continued his military career, graduating from the "Vystrel" courses in 1946 and serving as a regiment commander in the Turkestan Military District. From 1950 to 1960, he was the military commissar of the city of Tashkent. He retired from service with the rank of major and settled in Tashkent. Abzalov passed away on February 7, 1983, and was laid to rest in the Heroes' Alley of the Warriors' Cemetery in Tashkent.
