Early Career
Rémy Vercoutre began his football journey at Montpellier, a club known for developing young players. He made his debut for Montpellier's first team in the 1998/1999 season, playing one match in the French championship.
Montpellier's First-Choice Goalkeeper
During the 2000/2001 season, Montpellier competed in the second French league, presenting an opportunity for Vercoutre to become the club's starting goalkeeper. He played 20 matches in the championship, helping Montpellier finish third and earn a return to the top tier of French football.
Move to Olympique Lyonnais
In 2002, Vercoutre joined Olympique Lyonnais, becoming the second goalkeeper behind the legendary Grégory Coupet. His debut came on October 20, 2002, in a match against AC Ajaccio, which Lyon won 1-0. Vercoutre played his second match in the championship four months later against Rennes, with Lyon securing a 4-1 victory. Despite only playing twice during the 2002/2003 season, Vercoutre earned his first French league title.
Back-to-Back French Championships and Champions League Debut
The following season, Vercoutre made another two appearances in the championship and claimed his second French league title. He also made his debut in the Champions League on March 9, 2004, coming on as a substitute for Coupet in the 17th minute of a match against Real Sociedad. Lyon won the match 1-0 thanks to a goal from Juninho.
Loan to Strasbourg
After the 2003/2004 season, Vercoutre was loaned to Strasbourg. His debut came on August 7, 2004, in a match against Bastia, which Strasbourg lost 2-1. Vercoutre played five matches for Strasbourg in the 2004/2005 French championship and helped the team win the French league cup.
Return to Lyon and Continued Success
Upon returning to Lyon, Vercoutre remained the second-choice goalkeeper. Despite this, he was part of three title-winning campaigns from 2006 to 2008, also securing the Super Cup in 2006 and the French Cup in 2008.
International Career
Vercoutre has yet to make his debut for the French national team but has previously represented various youth teams.
