Early Life and InfluencesBorn on January 16, 1942, in Moulins, Richard Bohringer's parentage was an intriguing blend: his father was a German Wehrmacht officer, and his mother a French woman they met during World War II. His formative years were spent in bohemian Saint-Germain-des-Prés, where he began writing. Inspired by director Michel Audiard, he delved into screenwriting. Venturing to New York for a few years, Bohringer experimented with a bohemian lifestyle.

Returning to France, Bohringer emerged as a singer-songwriter. His transition to acting began in the 1960s, with a stage role in Claude Lelouch's "Les Girafes" and a film debut in Gérard Blain's "La Maison" (1970).

Bohringer's breakthrough came in 1982 with his enigmatic role in Jean-Jacques Beineix's "Diva." This performance catapulted him to fame. He followed up with gritty roles in "Péril en la demeure," "L'Addition," and "Agent Trouble." His portrayal in Jean-Loup Hubert's "Le Grand Chemin" (1987) earned him a César Award for Best Actor.
