Slovak Professional Ice Hockey Player
Peter Miroslav Bondra (born January 7, 1968) is a Slovak professional ice hockey player. He was drafted 249th overall in the 10th round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals.
NHL Career
Washington Capitals (1994-2001)Bondra made his NHL debut with the Capitals in the 1994-95 season. He quickly established himself as a top goal scorer, winning the Richard Trophy as the NHL's leading goal scorer in 1999.
Montreal Canadiens (2001-2006)
In 2001, Bondra was traded to the Montreal Canadiens. He continued to score at a high level in Montreal, helping the team reach the Stanley Cup Finals in 2002.
Return to Washington (2006-2007)
Bondra returned to the Capitals in 2006. However, his second stint in Washington was short-lived, as he was traded to the New York Islanders in 2007.
New York Islanders (2007-2008)
Bondra played one season with the Islanders before being involved in a gruesome on-ice incident. On February 10, 2008, a skate blade sliced his carotid artery during a game against the Buffalo Sabres. Bondra miraculously survived the injury and recovered to play again.
KHL Career (2009-2010)
In 2009, Bondra signed a two-year contract with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He retired from professional hockey in 2010.
