Ricardo Castro Carlos Yan, known as Rico Yan, was a Filipino actor and model. He was born on March 14, 1975, in Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Rico attended De La Salle University in Manila, where he earned a degree in Business Management.

Early Career

After graduating, Rico Yan became a young representative of the Department of Education, touring the Philippines to promote education among the youth. He also ventured into modeling and business, owning several restaurants including the Mexican-themed "Tequila Joes."

Star Magic and ABS-CBN

Rico Yan was a member of the organization "Star Magic," which aimed to support young Filipino talents. He signed an exclusive contract with ABS-CBN Corporation, one of the largest media and entertainment companies in the Philippines.

Philanthropy and Advocacy

Rico Yan actively supported various philanthropic endeavors. He helped establish the non-profit organization "Pinoy 'Yan!," which aimed to emphasize the importance of education and encourage young people to stay in school. He also collaborated with the organization "Are You a Forest King," visiting several schools to promote the significance of tree growth on the planet.

Personal Life and Tragic Death

Rico Yan was in a relationship with actress Claudine Barretto at the time of his death. On March 29, 2002, the day after filming a television commercial for "Talk 'N Text" at Dos Palmas Resort in Puerto Princesa, Rico Yan passed away in his sleep due to heart failure caused by acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis. He was 27 years old.
