Birth and Early Life
Vladas Venckūnas was born in Lithuania and pursued a degree in Philology from Vilnius University, graduating in 1973.
Theatrical Debut
As a student, Venckūnas directed his first play in 1972, a production based on the poetry of Jonas Mekas.
Education and Professional Development
In addition to his undergraduate studies, Venckūnas obtained a degree in the performing arts from the State Institute of Theater Arts in Moscow (1978-1982). He worked as a director and speech coach at the Vilnius University Courtyard Theater from 1975 to 1990.
Multifaceted Career
Throughout his career, Venckūnas held various roles. He served as an editor at the Main Encyclopedia Editorial Office (1975-1976), curator and host at the Palace of Culture Workers (1976-2001) and the Vilnius Town Hall (2001-2002). He also hosted theater programs for Lithuanian Television (1977-1983) and Vilnius Radio Studio (1998).
Theater Leadership
In 1988, Venckūnas initiated and led the Association of University Theaters of Lithuania, bringing together six university theaters in major cities. From 1990 to 2005, he directed and managed the Vilnius University Chamber Theater "Minimum." Since 2006, he has served as the Artistic Director of the Vilnius University Theater.
Dramaturgy and International Recognition
Venckūnas has written several dramatic works. Productions directed by him have been performed in prestigious venues such as London, Paris, and Innsbruck. Student groups directed by Venckūnas have participated in international student theater festivals worldwide.
