Early Life and CareerRita Kőbán was born on April 10, 1965, in Budapest, Hungary. She began her rowing journey in 1977 and joined the Csepel club in 1982. Kőbán made her international debut in 1985, winning a silver and bronze medal at the World Championships in Mechelen.

Kőbán's career reached its peak at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, where she triumphed in the K-4 500m event. She repeated her Olympic triumph in 1996 in Atlanta, winning gold in the K-1 500m. These two gold medals brought her total Olympic medal tally to six, a testament to her remarkable longevity and consistency.
