An Illustrious Career in Rowing: Valent Sinković

Early Life and Transition to Rowing

Valent Sinković, a Croatian rower born in 1988, originally pursued football. However, an injury led him to join his brothers, Matija and Martin, in rowing. From 2004 onwards, he began participating in World Rowing Junior Championships.

Early Successes

In 2006, Sinković teamed up with Damir Martin in the double sculls at the World Rowing Junior Championships, securing a silver medal. Two years later, he and younger brother Martin reached the final of the European Rowing Championships in the double sculls, finishing in 5th place.

International Breakthrough

Sinković's breakthrough came in 2010 when he won a silver medal in the quad sculls at the European Rowing Championships. In November of that year, he became World Champion in the quad sculls alongside Martin. The Croatian rowers continued their success with a bronze medal in the quad sculls at the 2011 World Championships.

Olympic Silver

At the 2012 London Olympics, Sinković was part of Croatia's quad sculls team. After topping their heat and semi-final, they faced a stern challenge in the final. Germany emerged victorious, but Sinković and his teammates fought hard to claim silver, edging out Australia by a mere 0.44 seconds.

European and World Dominance

Following the Olympics, Sinković and his brother Martin won gold in the double sculls at the 2012 European Championships. They triumphed again at the 2013 World Championships, taking gold in the quad sculls. In 2014, the duo made their World Championship debut in the double sculls, winning with a significant advantage. They defended their title in 2015, becoming four-time World Champions.

Family Ties

Valent Sinković's older brother, Matija, and younger brother, Martin, are also accomplished rowers. Martin is an Olympic silver medalist and multiple World Champion in sculling events.
