Early Life and Education

Rita Strode was born in Vārkava, Latvia. After completing school, she attended the Daugavpils Pedagogical Institute, graduating in 1979.

Career in Local Government

Strode's involvement in politics began with the establishment of the Daugavpils City Party, where she served on the board. She later joined the "Latvian Way" party.

As a member of the Daugavpils City Council, Strode held various positions, including Vice-Mayor under Mayor Arkādijs Višņakovs (1994-1997 and 1997-2001). In August 2003, she was elected Mayor of Daugavpils. Following the 2005 elections, she was re-elected as Mayor.

In the 2009 elections, Strode lost her mayoral seat to Rihards Eigims. However, after Eigims' removal from office on October 22, 2009, Strode was elected Vice-Mayor.

Parliamentary Career

In the 2010 elections for the 10th Saeima (Parliament of Latvia), Strode was elected as a member for the Latgale constituency.
