Sylvie Retailleau
Early Life and EducationSylvie Retailleau was born on February 24, 1965, in Nice, France. She graduated from the École Normale Supérieure de Cachan and obtained an agrégation degree in applied physics from the University of Paris-Sud in 1988. She subsequently earned a Doctor of Science degree (D.Sc.) from the same university in 1992.
Academic Career
Retailleau's scientific career began at the Institute of Fundamental Electronics at the University of Paris-Sud, where she became a lecturer after completing her doctoral dissertation. From 2007 to 2008, she served as the vice-president of the physics department of the Faculty of Science. She held the position of deputy dean for academic affairs from 2008 to 2011 and became the dean of the faculty in 2011, serving until 2016. In 2020, she was appointed as the president of Paris-Saclay University.
Personal Life
Retailleau is married to Professor Stéphane Retailleau. She has no relation to politician Bruno Retailleau.
Political Appointment
On May 20, 2022, Sylvie Retailleau was appointed as the Minister of Higher Education and Research under the government of Élisabeth Borne.
