Biography of Robert Steven Moore
Robert Steven Moore is an American singer, musician, and singer-songwriter. Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Moore released his first record at the age of seven, with the help of his father, legendary musician Bob Moore. The recording, a duet with Jim Reeves titled 'But You Love Me, Daddy', became a hit ten years later in 1969.
Moore is skilled in playing the guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums, and is also a talented songwriter. In 1966, he began experimenting with recording in the style of a "one-man orchestra" in the basement of his parents' house. In 1967, Moore formed his first band, 'The Marlborough', with his high school friends. He also worked actively with his father as a studio musician and assistant at his company, 'Mimosa Music'.
In 1971, Moore left Vanderbilt University and fully committed himself to music, preferring to perform solo. He was able to gather enough material for a full-length album by 1976, which received high praise from the New York magazine 'Trouser Press'. In 1996, his album 'Phonography' was included in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "50 Most Important Indie Records".
Soon after his debut, Moore moved from Nashville to New Jersey, where he released the EP 'Stance' and his second album, 'Delicate Tension', with the help of his uncle. In 1980, he released 'Clack', which was recorded in a professional studio rather than at home.
In 1984, Moore released his next LP, 'What's The Point?!!', and the Paris-based label 'New Rose Records' released a double compilation album titled 'Everything You Always Wanted To Know About R Stevie Moore But Were Afraid To Ask'. The label openly referred to Moore as one of the greatest poet-songwriters of his time. He received a warm reception in France overall.
Throughout the 80s, Moore continued to release new albums and started making periodic television appearances on Floyd Vivino's project. He also became interested in creating home videos around the same time, a skill he still actively uses today by regularly sharing new creations on YouTube and MySpace.
Moore didn't slow down in the 21st century. He continues to regularly release new CDs and collaborates with independent labels worldwide. Moore maintains close friendships and creative relationships with many well-known underground musicians such as Terry Burrows, Mike Watt, Jason Falkner, and Eric Matthews. Recently, he introduced a new online project called 'Copy Me', where he invites musicians to share their cover versions of famous hits.
In late 2010, Moore decided to return to his hometown of Nashville, where he planned to continue his musical career. In 2011, he embarked on his first concert tour, including performances in Europe. In 2012, Moore released a cover version of The Vaccines' song 'Post Break Up Sex', and a limited edition disc with this cover was released on Record Store Day.
Currently, Moore continues to tour the world while also collecting material for new albums.
