Roberta Lombardi: A Trailblazing Italian Politician
Political BeginningsRoberta Lombardi is an Italian politician and a member of the Five Star Movement (M5S). Originally from Orbetello, she relocated to Rome and pursued higher education in international trade law at Sapienza University of Rome and management at LUISS Free International University. Lombardi has been actively involved in civic engagement since the age of 19, working as a caregiver, secretary, children's entertainer, and in various retail and teaching roles.
Entry into Politics
In 2008, Lombardi participated in the Lazio regional elections as part of Beppe Grillo's Civic Friends List. She officially became a member of the M5S in 2012 and was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in the 2012 parliamentary elections.
Leadership within the M5S
On March 19, 2013, Lombardi became the leader of the M5S parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies. She resigned from this position on June 5, but continued to handle administrative matters. Since January 28, 2015, she has been a member of the 11th Commission for Labor (Public and Private) in the Chamber of Deputies.
Controversies
Lombardi has faced criticism for her public statements. In 2013, she published a blog post expressing admiration for certain aspects of fascism. She later clarified her remarks, stating that she was providing a historical analysis. Lombardi also attracted controversy by suggesting that social safety nets for unfairly dismissed workers were an anomaly.
