Biography of Roger Glover

Roger Glover, the bassist of the band Deep Purple, was born on November 30, 1945, in Brecon, South Wales, United Kingdom. He studied art at Harrow County School and played in local amateur bands, starting with The Madisons and later joining The Lightnings. The merger of these bands in 1963 formed the group The Episode Six, to which Ian Gillan joined in 1965. Following him, Glover joined Deep Purple in 1969 and, almost simultaneously with Gillan, left the group in 1973.

Producer Career

From that moment until 1978, Glover dedicated himself to his professional career as a producer. He worked with a vast number of renowned artists, including Barbie Benton, Joe Breen, Elf, Ian Gillan Band, Whitesnake, Rory Gallagher, Hardin & York, Judas Priest, Nazareth, Status Quo, Young & Moody, and many others.

"Butterfly Ball" and Rainbow

In 1974, Glover wrote the music for the animated film "Butterfly Ball," which grew into a separate work and was performed live with the participation of famous musicians such as Tony Ashton, David Coverdale, Ronnie James Dio, Ray Fenwick, Mike Giles, John Gustafson, Eddie Hardin, Glenn Hughes, Eddie Jobson, Neil Lancaster, John Lawton, Mike Moran, Mickey Lee Soule. It was also released as a separate album.

In 1978, Glover was invited to join Richie Blackmore's band, Rainbow, as a producer and later replaced the bassist. In 1983, Glover released two solo albums, "The Mask" and "Elements."

Return to Deep Purple and Collaborations

Since 1984, Glover has been playing regularly with Deep Purple again, also serving as the group's producer until recently. In 1987-88, he recorded the album "Accidentally on Purpose" with Ian Gillan.

In September 1999, he participated in the 30th-anniversary "Concerto for Group and Orchestra" and the subsequent intercontinental tour with symphony orchestras in 2000.

In recent years, Glover has dedicated a lot of effort to remastering and reissuing albums from the second lineup of Deep Purple and agreed to do the same work for the album "Burn." In 2001, he participated in the recording of an album by the American group "Gov't Mule."

In October 2001, after two years of work, Roger Glover completed the recording and mixing of his solo album, tentatively titled "Snapshot" (his daughter Gillian participated as one of the vocalists in the recording).
