A Cuban Boxing Legend

Cuban boxer Roniel Iglesias is an Olympic legend. He has twice emerged victorious at the Olympic Games, once in 2012 and again in 2020. In 2008, he showcased his talent with a bronze medal in the 64 kg category, narrowly losing in the semifinals to Thailand's Manus Boonjumnong.

World Championship Glory

Iglesias' achievements extend beyond the Olympic stage. In 2009, he claimed the world championship title in Milan, defeating 17-year-old American Frankie Gomez in the 64 kg category final.

Continued Dominance

At the 2012 Olympics, Iglesias added another gold to his resume, this time in the 64 kg weight class. In the final, he outclassed Ukraine's Denys Berinchyk. However, the 2016 Olympic Games brought a setback as he was defeated by Uzbekistan's Shakhram Giyasov in the 69 kg quarterfinals.

Redemption in Hamburg

Iglesias faced Giyasov once more in the 2017 world championship final in Hamburg. Unfortunately, Giyasov emerged victorious once again.

Olympic Gold in Tokyo

Undeterred, Iglesias returned to the Olympic stage in Tokyo 2021, competing in the 69 kg category. Despite facing a formidable challenge, he reached the final and dominated Great Britain's Pat McCormack, securing a resounding gold medal victory.
