Early Life and Education

Roselyne Bachelot was born on December 24, 1946, in Angers, France. Her father, Jean Narquin, was a veteran of the French Resistance and a Gaullist deputy. Her mother, Yvette Le Du, worked as a secretary. Bachelot earned a doctorate in medicine from the University of Angers.

Political Career

Local and Regional Politics

Bachelot's political career began in 1982 when she was elected to the General Council of the Maine-et-Loire department. In 1988, she succeeded her father in the National Assembly of France. She served as Deputy Secretary-General of the Union for French Democracy from 1989 to 1991.

Ministerial Positions

In 2002, Bachelot was appointed Spokesperson for Jacques Chirac's presidential campaign. Following Chirac's election, she served as Minister of Ecology and Sustainable Development in the first government of Jean-Pierre Raffarin. She later held the position of Minister of Health, Youth, and Sports in the first government of François Fillon from 2007 to 2010. During her tenure, she oversaw the response to the H1N1 swine flu epidemic.

Minister of Culture

From 2020 to 2022, Bachelot served as Minister of Culture in the government of Jean Castex. She was responsible for implementing policies related to the arts, heritage, and media.

Personal Life

Bachelot is married to Jacques Bachelot, a businessman. They have a son, Pierre, who has worked as a parliamentary assistant to his mother and later at the National Institute for Health Prevention and Education.
