Early Life

Rostislav Rostislavovich Romanov was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1905. His father, Prince Rostislav Alexandrovich, was the only son of Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich and Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna. His mother, Princess Alexandra Pavlovna Golitsyna, later Mrs. Ermohr, was the daughter of Prince Pavel Pavlovich Golitsyn and Princess Alexandra Pavlovna Meshcherskaya. Rostislav's childhood was spent in Chicago, where he attended the prestigious Phillips Academy.

Education and Career

After graduating from high school, Rostislav pursued his education at Yale University, earning a Bachelor's degree in business administration. He then received a Master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago. Rostislav worked as a vice president at The Northern Trust Bank in Chicago for a period of time.

Move to London and Involvement with the Romanov Family

In 1985, Rostislav and his family moved to London, where he became the general manager of the London branch of a Liechtenstein bank. He also served as an advisor to the Romanov Family Association, and was an active member of the family. Rostislav represented the Romanovs at various conferences in London relating to the DNA analysis of the Romanov remains.

Burial of the Imperial Family Remains

In 1998, the remains of the Imperial Family were finally identified and buried. Rostislav and his family traveled to Russia for the first time to attend the burial. Despite his mother's earlier request that he never visit Russia, he had always dreamed of doing so.

Illness and Death

Shortly after returning to Britain, Rostislav became ill with a rare disease contracted from dust at a cathedral. He fell into a coma and died on January 7, 1999. He was buried at the Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady and All Saints in London.

Marriages and Children

Rostislav married twice. His first marriage was to Stephena Verdel Cook in 1960. They had one daughter, Princess Stephaenia Rostislavovna. He married secondly to Christin Ipsen in 1980. They had three children: Princess Alexandra Rostislavovna, Prince Rostislav Rostislavovich, and Prince Nikita Rostislavovich.
