Rovshan Bayramov: A Renowned Azerbaijani Olympian
Early Life and CareerRovshan Bayramov was born into an athletic family and began wrestling at the tender age of 12. Guided by his relatives, he joined Neftchi Sports and Health Center. Under the tutelage of Gul Ahmed Huseynov, Bayramov initially competed in youth tournaments. In 2002, his mentorship passed to Hijran Sharifov. Since 2014, Ilgar Abdullaev has served as his personal trainer.
Bayramov graduated from the Faculty of Martial Arts at Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Culture and Sports in 2008. He is married and has a son.
International Success
Bayramov's breakthrough came at the 2007 European Championships, where he claimed his first title. He repeated this triumph the following year. In 2008, he achieved Olympic silver at the Beijing Games, becoming an instant national hero. He repeated this feat at the 2012 London Olympics.
2011 World Championship Triumph
The pinnacle of Bayramov's career came in 2011 when he won the World Championship title in Istanbul. This victory earned him a license to represent Azerbaijan at the 2012 Olympics.
Olympic Performances
Bayramov's Olympic journey began in Beijing in 2008, where he reached the final in the 55 kg weight category. Despite his valiant efforts, he lost to Russia's Nazir Mankiev, securing a silver medal.
In London four years later, Bayramov once again made it to the final but fell short against South Korea's Ha Tae-hyun, earning another silver.
At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Bayramov's Olympic hopes ended at the semifinal stage. He missed out on a bronze medal in the third-place match, leaving him without a medal for the first time in three Olympic Games.
Social Contributions
In 2014, Bayramov was appointed as a Sports Ambassador for the 2015 Baku European Games. He is actively involved in promoting wrestling and inspiring young athletes in Azerbaijan.
