Early Life and InfluencesRuby Jean Cruz was born on March 31, 2000, to punk rock musician and actor Brandon Cruz and producer Elizabeth Finkelstein. Her striking resemblance to her father is evident in photographs shared on his Instagram account. From a young age, Ruby displayed a flair for the arts, entertaining her family with impromptu performances and participating in school plays.
Brandon Cruz's most notable role was as Eddie in the sitcom "Who's the Boss?," which he played from ages 7 to 10. In honor of his character's father (played by Bill Bixby), Cruz named his son and Ruby's brother, Lincoln Bixby.
Career Beginnings
Thanks to her parents' connections and her natural charm, Cruz secured small roles in television shows from her teenage years onward. Her breakthrough role came as the younger version of Annie Wilkes in the Hulu crime series "Castle Rock," based on the works of Stephen King. The adult Annie in the series was played by Lizzy Caplan, and the cast also featured Bill Skarsgård, Paul Sparks, Jane Levy, Sissy Spacek, Adam Rothenberg, and Tim Robbins.
In 2020, Cruz added "Blue Bloods" and the short film "God Is a Lobster" to her filmography. In April 2021, the crime miniseries "Mare of Easttown" premiered, featuring Cruz as Jess Riley, the friend of murdered young mother Erin McMenamin (played by Cailee Spaeny). Alongside Warwick Davis, who reprised his role from the original film, Cruz portrayed Kit, the daughter of Sorsha (played by Joanne Whalley), the warrior princess from the first movie. Cruz attended the Canadian TV program The Morning Show and a special screening in Hollywood for influencers and bloggers in anticipation of the premiere.
In the Year of the Blue Water Tiger, Cruz also starred in Emma Seligman's young adult comedy "Bottoms."
