Wilhelm Kroner was a distinguished German politician during the Weimar Republic era. His significant contributions in the transportation sector left a lasting impact on the nation.
Early Life and Education
Born into a family with a legal background, Kroner pursued higher education in law at the universities of Lausanne, Marburg, and Berlin. He graduated in 1898 with a doctorate in law and passed the First State Legal Examination.
Career in the Prussian Judiciary
Kroner embarked on a career in the Prussian judiciary, holding several positions. In 1903, he passed the Second State Legal Examination and became a senior civil servant in 1911. By 1917, he had risen to the rank of Privy Councillor and joined the Executive Council of Prussia's Ministry of Public Works.
Minister of Transport for Prussia (1921)
In 1921, Kroner took office as the Prussian Minister of Transport. He played a key role in shaping transportation policies within the Prussian state.
Imperial Government Service
Kroner's expertise in transportation extended beyond Prussia. In 1923, he became the State Secretary of the Imperial Ministry of Transport and ascended to the post of Minister of Transport on October 11, 1924, in Chancellor Wilhelm Marx's government. He retained this position under the subsequent chancellorship of Hans Luther.
Leadership in Multiple Ministries
Chronologically, Kroner's portfolio included temporary leadership of the Ministry of Economics. In addition, he continued to oversee the transportation department in the third Marx cabinet until the government's dissolution on January 28, 1927.
