Early Life and Military CareerAleksandr Karelin was born in Russia and received his higher military education in 1986, specializing in military-political studies. He served in the 76th Guards Airborne Division from 1986 to 1992, fulfilling special assignments in various locations.
Law Enforcement Service
After leaving the military, Karelin joined the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 1992, where he served in the Special Rapid Response Unit and later as commander of the OMON (Mobile Special Forces) in Krasnoyarsk. He participated in combat operations in Chechnya and attained the rank of Police Colonel.
Entry into Politics
Karelin first ran for office in 2001 as a candidate for the regional parliament. He was elected as a deputy to the Krasnoyarsk Legislative Assembly. In 2007, he was elected under the banner of United Russia and served on various committees.
