Early Life and Education
Born in Zhambul, Kazakhstan SSR on October 23, 1949, Rasul Karaev returned to Chechnya with his family in 1957. He completed high school and graduated in 1975 from the Faculty of Philology at Dagestan State University.
Journalistic Career
Karaev's journalistic career began at the republican newspaper "Komsomolets Dagestana," where he rose from literary collaborator to head of the propaganda department. In 1975, he became head of the letters department of the newspaper "Leninsky Put."
Starting in 1977, Karaev served as editor-in-chief of "Komsomolskoye Plemya," the newspaper of the Chechen-Ingush regional committee of the All-Union Leninist Communist Youth League (Komsomol).
Political Involvement
In May 1990, Karaev was elected as a people's deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Republic. He became a member of the "Democratic Initiative" parliamentary group.
Founding "Impuls" and Government Positions
In 1991, Karaev founded and became the editor-in-chief of the independent newspaper "Impuls." From 1995 to 1996, he also served as editor of the government newspaper "Vozrozhdeniye."
From 2002 to 2003, Karaev was appointed as Minister of Press of the Republic of Ingushetia. He remained a political observer for the newspaper "Vesti respubliki" until 2012.
Television and Program Production
From 1980 to 1990, Karaev worked as a senior editor at the Grozny TV studio, producing public and political programs. He was responsible for the programs "Impuls" and tele-bridge broadcasts.
Recognition and Awards
Rasul Karaev has received numerous governmental awards for his contributions to journalism in Chechnya and Ingushetia. These include the Honorary Certificate of the Parliament of the Chechen Republic for "high professionalism, exemplary execution of official duties, and significant contributions to the development of the print media of the Chechen Republic."
