Biography of Ryan Zinke
Early Life and EducationRyan Keith Zinke was born on November 1, 1961, in Bozeman, Montana, to parents Jean Montana Petersen and plumber Ray Dale Zinke. He grew up in Whitefish and was a standout athlete in high school. He received a football scholarship to the University of Oregon in Eugene, where he earned a bachelor's degree in geology in 1984. Zinke went on to earn a master's degree in business administration from National University in 1993 and a master's degree in global leadership from the University of San Diego in 2003.

Military Career
From 1986 to 2008, Zinke served as a Navy SEAL and retired with the rank of Commander (Captain 2nd Rank). He was a member of a multinational special operations task force in the Arabian Peninsula and led over 3,500 personnel in Iraq in 2004. Zinke received two Bronze Stars for his service in combat zones, as well as multiple other commendations for his military achievements.

Political Career
After leaving the military, Zinke founded a real estate management company called Continental Divide International in 2005. He also established a consulting firm called On Point Montana in 2009. In 2012, Zinke served on the board of QS Energy and was elected to the Montana Senate, where he represented Whitefish from 2009 to 2011. He later ran for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives and was elected in 2014, representing Montana's 1st congressional district.

Views and Achievements
Zinke has been known for his conservative stance on various issues. He signed a letter in 2010 that labeled global warming as a "multi-threat to instability in the most volatile regions of the world." However, he later expressed doubts about anthropogenic climate change, stating that there is no scientific evidence to support it.

As a congressman, Zinke focused on anti-abortion measures and received the endorsement of Montana Right to Life. He has also condemned anti-Semitic views held by neo-Nazis in his hometown of Whitefish.
Nomination as Secretary of the Interior
In December 2016, President-elect Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate Zinke as the Secretary of the Interior. This position oversees the management and conservation of federal lands and natural resources in the United States. Zinke's nomination was confirmed by the Senate, and he assumed the role on March 1, 2017.
