Early Life and EducationSabetai Drăgoi was born into a Jewish family in Bucharest, Romania, on February 21, 1876. He displayed musical talent at a young age and studied at the Bucharest Conservatory.
Academic Career
After graduating, Drăgoi served as a professor at the conservatories in Timisoara (1924-1942 and 1946-1950) and Bucharest (1950-1952). He also held administrative positions as the Director of the Timisoara Opera House (1940-1947) and the Institute of Folklore in Bucharest (1950-1964).
Musical Compositions
Drăgoi's musical compositions drew heavily upon Romanian peasant songs. He composed numerous works for piano and voice with piano accompaniment, as well as arrangements of folk melodies. His works included:
Piano Transcriptions:Drăgoi transcribed over 3000 Romanian folk melodies for piano, preserving their traditional rhythms and harmonies.
Folk Song Collections:He compiled collections of folk songs, including carols and doinas (traditional Romanian ballads).
