Sadyr Japarov: President of the Kyrgyz Republic
Early Life and EducationSadyr Japarov, born on December 6, 1968, in Ken-Suu village, Kyrgyzstan, grew up in a large family. He completed his secondary education and went on to earn a physical education degree from the Kyrgyz State Institute of Physical Culture in Frunze.
Military Service and Early Career
Japarov served in the Soviet Army and attained the rank of junior sergeant. Upon his return, he resumed his studies and graduated in 1992. He then worked briefly in agriculture before entering politics.
Political Career
2005-2009: Opposition Activist and Government AdvisorIn 2005, Japarov was elected to the Parliament as part of the opposition party "Kelechek" ("Future"). Following the Tulip Revolution, he became an advisor to President Kurmanbek Bakiyev.
2010-2013: Anti-Corruption Campaigner
After Bakiyev's overthrow, Japarov served as Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency. He accused Kyrgyzjilkomsouz of corruption, leading to allegations of nepotism as his brother owned a coal mine.
2010-2013: Parliamentarian and Activist
Japarov was re-elected to Parliament in 2010. He advocated for the nationalization of the Kumtor gold mine, gaining popularity among his constituents. He was arrested and charged with attempting to seize power in 2012 following protests.
2013-2017: Imprisonment and Exile
Despite protests, Japarov was imprisoned for 1 year and 6 months. After his release, he continued his political activism. He fled the country in 2013 after accusations of involvement in further protests.
2017-2020: Return and Imprisonment
In 2017, Japarov returned to Kyrgyzstan and was arrested and charged with organizing mass disturbances. He was sentenced to 11 years and 6 months in prison.
Political Rehabilitation and Prime Ministership
In 2020, following mass protests against the results of parliamentary elections, Japarov's supporters freed him from prison. He was appointed Prime Minister on October 6, 2020.
Presidency
2020-2021: Acting PresidentAfter President Sooronbay Jeenbekov's resignation, Japarov became Acting President on October 15, 2020. He resigned to contest the presidential elections in 2021.
2021-Present: President
Japarov won the presidential elections held on January 10, 2021, with 79.2% of the vote. He was inaugurated on January 28, 2021.

Personal Life
Japarov is married to Aigul Asanbaeva, with whom he has four children. His eldest son passed away in a car accident in 2019.
