Sándor Gellér was a renowned Hungarian footballer who played as a goalkeeper for two clubs and the Hungarian national team.
Club Career
Gellér began his professional career with Püspökladányi FC in 1945. In 1947, he joined MTK Budapest, where he spent the rest of his career until 1962. During his time at MTK, he made 260 appearances, winning three Hungarian Championship titles (1949, 1950, 1951) and one Hungarian Cup (1952).
International Career
From 1950 to 1956, Gellér represented Hungary in eight matches as a goalkeeper. However, he served as a backup to the legendary Gyula Grosics, who was the team's undisputed first-choice shot-stopper. During his time with the national team, Gellér conceded 16 goals and helped Hungary achieve five victories, one draw, and two defeats.
