Biography of Sarkis Muradyan

Sarkis Mambreevich Muradyan was a renowned artist from the Soviet Union and a People's Artist of the Armenian SSR. He was born on June 23, 1927, in Yerevan, and passed away on July 12, 2007, also in Yerevan.

Early Life and Education

In 1951, Muradyan graduated from the Yerevan Institute of Fine Arts and Theatre. His artistic journey began during this time, setting the foundation for his future success.

Artistic Career

In 1954, Muradyan became a member of the Union of Artists of the Armenian SSR. He dedicated his career to creating exceptional artworks that showcased his talent and creativity.

From 1964 to 1968, he served as the chairman of the Art Council of the Art Fund of the Armenian SSR. Following that, from 1982 to 1987, he held the position of chairman of the Union of Artists of the Armenian SSR.

Muradyan also ventured into politics and served as a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR from 1985 to 1990. He was a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF-Dashnaktsutyun) during this period.

Furthermore, Muradyan became a professor at the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts in 1995. He actively participated in the academic community and was a member of the academy's scientific council.

Achievements and Recognition

Throughout his career, Muradyan received numerous accolades for his artistic contributions. In 1969, he was awarded the Bronze Medal of the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy (VDNKh) for his painting "Sons Did Not Return" (1968).

He was honored with the State Prize of the USSR in 1976 for his works "Under Peaceful Sky" (1972) and "Before Dawn" (1971). In 1983, he became a corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR. In 1977, he was named the People's Artist of the Armenian SSR. He achieved the title of professor in 1979.
