Scott Lewis Bolzan is a motivator, writer, entrepreneur, and former football player. He is the founder and CEO of 'Legendary Jets', a company specializing in private jet charters. Bolzan's previous company, 'West Jet Aircraft', became the top charter carrier in Arizona. However, in February 2008, he sold the company and launched his new venture, 'Legendary Jets'.
Early Life and Football Career
Scott Lewis Bolzan was born to Louis and Alice Bolzan in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in Chicago and attended Northern Illinois University on a sports scholarship from 1980 to 1984. It was during his time at the university that Bolzan met his future wife, Joan, whom he married in 1984. Bolzan also had a successful football career during his college years, playing for the university team, the Northern Illinois Huskies. After graduating, Bolzan briefly played professionally, but his football career only lasted for two years. He was selected by the New England Patriots in the draft in May 1984 but was released by the team in August. He then played for the Memphis Showboats before joining the Cleveland Browns. Unfortunately, his time with the Browns was short-lived, as he was released in September, re-signed, and then released again. Bolzan signed a new contract with the team in May 1986 but suffered a serious injury in August, which ultimately led to the end of his football career.
Transition to Business and Aviation
After giving up his dreams of a successful sports career, Bolzan decided to pursue business opportunities. He soon became the head of a company specializing in insurance and investments. In 1993, Bolzan relocated to Arizona and ventured into the aviation industry. His company, 'West Jet Aircraft', quickly gained recognition as the top charter carrier in Arizona. In February 2008, Bolzan sold the company and launched 'Legendary Jets', a new venture in the private jet charter industry.
Loss of Memory and Recovery Efforts
On December 17, 2008, Bolzan slipped and hit his head in a men's restroom, resulting in a severe concussion and memory loss. Doctors initially assured Bolzan that his memory would return, but months passed, and there was no improvement. For some time, Bolzan kept the details of his condition hidden from his wife, Joan, but eventually, he confided in her. Together, they sought help from neurologists, who diagnosed the impact of the head injury, which disrupted blood flow to the right temporal lobe and affected other parts of the brain. The lack of oxygen supply caused the gradual atrophy of Bolzan's brain, leading to the loss of memory. The prognosis was grim, with little chance of memory restoration.
Determination and Support
Despite the devastating diagnosis, Bolzan's wife, Joan, refused to give up. She made every effort to help her husband regain his memory, but souvenirs, stories, and photographs were ineffective. Bolzan had not only forgotten his own past but also basic knowledge, such as birthdays or the essence of marital relationships. However, he managed to retain essential skills like using utensils and driving a car.
A New Perspective
In October 9, 2011, 'The New York Post' published an article presenting a radically different view of Bolzan's story. The author suggested that Bolzan might have been simulating all the symptoms he experienced. This new perspective challenged the previously accepted understanding of his condition.
