Early Life and Family

Semen Prosyak was born in 1931 in Zhashkiv, Ukrainian SSR. His parents were photographers, and the young Prosyak was exposed to the art from an early age.

Wartime Ordeal and Technical Education

During World War II, Prosyak spent two harrowing years in a concentration camp. After the war, he attended technical school and became a photo laboratory director.

Artistic Emergence and "Sednev" Series

In 1978, Prosyak joined the "Dnepr" photo club in Dnipropetrovsk. His first solo exhibition took place in 1980. Prosyak's renowned "Sednev" series, capturing the picturesque village of Sednev in the late 1970s, gained him wide recognition.

International Success

Prosyak's work was featured in the 1989 French documentary "The Red Line," showcasing Soviet and Russian photography. The "Sednev" series exhibited in Russia, Ukraine, and Lithuania, garnering international acclaim.

Recognition and Emigration

Prosyak became a member of the Union of Photographers of the USSR and the National Union of Photographers of Ukraine. In 1997, he emigrated to Halle, Germany. His work continues to be exhibited and is held in museum and private collections worldwide.
