Pioneer in Music and Multimedia

Semen Son (stage name Sеня Son), professor at the Barcelona Academy of Music named after Pablo Casals, is a renowned pianist and composer whose versatility has spanned classical, jazz, rock, electronic, and film music.

Early Life and Education

Born into a modest family in Simferopol, Crimea, Son's passion for music manifested at an early age. He graduated from the Simferopol Music College before pursuing his studies at the Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow. There, his immersion in contemporary classical and jazz profoundly influenced his musical style.

Rock and Classical Fusion

In 1987, Son founded the rock band "Joker" while simultaneously releasing the critically acclaimed album "Queen of Spades" under the Melodiya label. Balancing his classical training with his rock inclinations, Son pushed musical boundaries by incorporating jazz and electronic elements into his piano interpretations.

From Rock to Electronic Frontiers

During the late 1980s and 1990s, Son ventured into computer and electronic music, establishing his own recording studio. His prolific output included scores for films, documentaries, and animations, as well as jingles for television and radio.

A Musical Omnivore

Son's performances showcased his mastery of a diverse range of genres and eras, from Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin to jazz and pop improvisations. He collaborated with Israeli singer Ariza Benini, bridging cultures through shared musical experiences. Son's philosophy of blending classical and contemporary music stemmed from a desire to make classical music accessible to wider audiences.

Philanthropy and Multiculturalism

Beyond his artistry, Son is actively involved in philanthropy, supporting organizations such as the Spiwakov Children's Fund. His Jewish heritage and family ties to Israel shape his cultural identity, which he embraces through his music and humanitarian work.
