Sergey Fridinsky, Russian Chief Military Prosecutor

Early Career and Military Prosecutions

Sergey Fridinsky was born in Kuibyshev, Russia, on June 2, 1958. In 1976, he enrolled in the Military-Legal Faculty of the Military Institute of the USSR Ministry of Defense. After graduating, he worked in the military prosecutor's offices in Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Chita, and Rostov-on-Don from 1980 to 2000. During this time, he held positions such as deputy military prosecutor of the Trans-Baikal Military District.

Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation

In 2000, Fridinsky became Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation for the North Caucasian Federal District (later the Southern Federal District). He was the only military prosecutor among the justice officials in the federal district. His appointment was reportedly facilitated by Viktor Kazantsev, the presidential envoy to the Southern Federal District.

As Deputy Prosecutor General, Fridinsky oversaw high-profile cases such as the 2000 terrorist attack in Argun, the 2001 indictment of Chechen field commander Salman Raduev, and the 2002 investigation into the Caspian Sea terrorist attack. He also supervised the extradition process of Ahmed Zakayev, the foreign envoy of Chechnya's unrecognized president, Aslan Maskhadov.

Chief Military Prosecutor

On July 7, 2006, the Federation Council approved Fridinsky as Chief Military Prosecutor at the recommendation of the new Prosecutor General, Yuri Chaika. He succeeded Alexander Savenkov, who had been involved in a conflict with the Ministry of Defense. Under Fridinsky's leadership, the conflict was resolved.

Key Investigations and Initiatives

As Chief Military Prosecutor, Fridinsky conducted a large-scale inspection of schools throughout Russia, uncovering numerous shortcomings in the performance of officials from the ministries of education, health, and social development. He also proposed the creation of vocational gymnasiums for orphaned and neglected children.

Honors and Personal Life

Sergey Fridinsky has received several state awards. He is married and has a daughter.
