Early Life and Education
Georgy Lominadze, a prominent Georgian politician, was born in Tbilisi on April 20, 1947. He received his initial education at Railway School No. 7 before graduating with a degree in thermal engineering (physics of high temperatures) from the Georgian Polytechnic Institute in 1971. In 1988, he completed the Academy of National Economy in Moscow.
Political Career
Lominadze's political career began in 1972 when he became an instructor for the Tbilisi City Committee of the Komsomol. He held various positions within the Communist Party and Soviet government, including Secretary and First Secretary of the Party Committee of the Mayakovsky District of Tbilisi from 1977 to 1989. He also served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the same district.
In 1989, Lominadze was appointed First Secretary of the Tbilisi City Party Committee, a position he held until becoming Chairman of the Tbilisi City Executive Committee in 1990. He subsequently became a member of the Supreme Council of Georgia in 1990-1991.
Business and Public Service
Lominadze co-founded the company "Galo. G.M." Co Ltd in 1990, which merged with "Kavkasioni" Co Ltd in 1991. The company was later reorganized into Coca Cola Bottlers' Georgia in 1993. Lominadze served as Chief State Advisor to the Cabinet of Ministers of Georgia from January to November 1992.
Political Leadership
Lominadze was elected to the Parliament of Georgia in November 1992 and served as Mayor of Tbilisi from October 1993 to December 1995. He also held the position of State Minister of Georgia from December 1995 to July 1998. After the resignation of the Georgian cabinet in 1998, he returned to parliament.
Current Activities
Lominadze is currently a member of the Georgian Parliament, serving on the Committee for Regional Policy and Self-Governance. He is also a leading member of the Union of Citizens of Georgia.
