Early Life and Education

Katalin Szili was born in Kaposvár, Hungary, on May 8, 1956. She graduated from the University of Pécs in 1981 with a law degree.

Political Career

Szili's political career began in 1971 when she joined the Communist Youth Union. She held various positions within the organization until 1987. In 1987, she joined the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party, which later became the Hungarian Socialist Party.

Member of Parliament

Szili was first elected to the Hungarian Parliament in 1994. She has served continuously since then.

Ministerial Positions

From 2002 to 2007, Szili served as Hungary's Minister of the Interior. From 2006 to 2007, she was Minister of Local Government and Regional Development. From 2007 to 2008, she held the position of Minister of Labor and Social Policy.

Post-Government Career

Since 2008, Szili has been the president of the Mihály Tancsics Foundation, which is affiliated with the Hungarian Socialist Party.
