Biography of Sergei Kornilenko
Sergei Kornilenko is a Belarusian footballer who played as a forward for the Belarus national team. He was born on July 14, 1983, in Vitebsk, Belarus.
Early Career and Rise to Prominence
Kornilenko began his football career at a young age and showed much promise. By the age of 15, he was already training with the senior team of FC Lokomotiv-96 Vitebsk. At 16, he made his debut in the Belarusian Premier League. His impressive performances attracted the attention of FC Dynamo Minsk, and he joined their youth team in 2002. In the following year, Kornilenko established himself in the first team, becoming the top scorer of the league and winning the bronze medal in the championship and the Belarusian Cup.
Moves Abroad and Success in Ukraine
After an outstanding season in 2003, Kornilenko caught the eye of foreign clubs. He went on a trial to VfB Stuttgart in Germany, but the club decided to postpone the transfer decision. Meanwhile, FC Dynamo Kyiv made an offer to the talented forward, and on January 16, 2004, they signed a contract until 2008. Kornilenko played nine matches and scored two goals in the second half of the 2003/04 season, helping Dynamo Kyiv win the Ukrainian Premier League title.
In the summer of 2004, the head coach who had brought Kornilenko to Kyiv left, and the new coach decided to focus on other players, leading to Kornilenko being relegated to the reserves. He was then loaned out to FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, where he had an impressive run, scoring seven goals in 14 games. Dnipro decided to buy out his contract from Dynamo Kyiv, and Kornilenko signed a three-year agreement with the club.
Challenges and Moves to Russia
In the 2006/07 season, Kornilenko scored 10 goals in 26 matches, finishing as the third top scorer in the Ukrainian Premier League. However, he received a red card in the last game and faced a five-match suspension. This resulted in him losing his place in the starting lineup to other forwards. In January 2008, Kornilenko began searching for a new team and played the remainder of the season with Dnipro. During the season, he appeared in nine matches but failed to score any goals.
In August 2008, Kornilenko signed a 2.5-year contract with FC Tom Tomsk in Russia. He had a successful season, becoming the team's top scorer with six goals in the first half of the 2009 season. However, due to financial difficulties, Kornilenko submitted a request to terminate his contract and reached an agreement with FC Zenit Saint Petersburg. After passing a medical examination, he signed a 4.5-year contract with Zenit. However, at the end of the season, the club decided to part ways with Kornilenko.
Currently, Kornilenko is actively searching for a new club, with a possibility of returning to FC Tom Tomsk or joining English club West Ham United. Despite facing challenges and setbacks throughout his career, Sergei Kornilenko has proven himself as a talented forward and an asset to any team he plays for.
