Sergei Shakarayan: A Renowned Armenian Military Leader

Sergei Shakarayan, an Armenian military commander, actively participated in the First Artsakh War at the tender age of 17, serving as a tank commander and rising to the rank of Colonel in the Artsakh Defense Army.

Early Life and Education

Sergei's early years were spent at M. Manvelyan Secondary School in Hadrut. He then transitioned to the Stepanakert Agricultural Institute for his higher education. However, his studies were cut short when he responded to the call to arms in the Karabakh War.

Courage in the First Artsakh War

At the age of 17, Sergei joined his father in the fight for independence, taking up arms in the First Artsakh War. His father later perished while serving in the war, leaving Sergei to carry his legacy forward.

Second Artsakh War and Honors

During the Second Artsakh War, Colonel Shakarayan showcased his military prowess as an experienced commander. He led the defense against numerous Azerbaijani tank and infantry attacks, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy.

In recognition of his exceptional service, Sergei Shakarayan was awarded the "Golden Eagle" order and conferred the title of "Hero of Artsakh" on October 4, 2020, by Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan.

Sergei Shakarayan was an only child, a devoted husband, and a loving father to two sons and a daughter. His untimely demise occurred on October 25, 2020, during the fighting in Artsakh. Sergei Shakarayan's bravery and sacrifice will forever be etched in the annals of Armenian history.
