Early Life and Education
Nurbek Zhagiparov was born on October 30, 1951. He graduated from the Almaty Institute of National Economy. He then pursued graduate studies in political economy at Moscow State University's Faculty of Humanities. Zhagiparov earned a doctorate in economics and became an associate professor.
Political and Economic Career
From 1990 to 1991, Zhagiparov served as a consultant to the State Commission of the Kazakh SSR on Economy. From February 1997 to March 1999, he was Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In March 1999, Zhagiparov became Deputy Minister of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan. From October 1999 to 2000, he served as Deputy Minister of Economy.
Appointment to Islamic Development Bank
On December 2, 1999, President Nursultan Nazarbayev appointed Zhagiparov as Deputy Governor of the Islamic Development Bank from the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Financial Sector Roles
From 1999 to 2001, Zhagiparov held various positions in financial institutions, including Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Small Business Development Fund and member of the Board of Directors of Eximbank Kazakhstan.
On June 25, 2001, he joined Kazkommerzbank as an advisor to the Chairman of the Board. From September 30, 2002 to October 20, 2003, he served as a member of Kazkommerzbank's Board of Directors.
Association of Financiers of Kazakhstan
On April 19, 2004, Zhagiparov was elected Chairman of the Association of Financiers of Kazakhstan, a position he held until 2009.
