Serifbolsyn Abdilidn's Early Life and Education

Serifbolsyn Abdilidn was born in 1936 in Kazakhstan. He graduated from Kazakh State Agricultural Institute in 1960.

Career in Agriculture and Economics

Abdilidn began his career as a chief agronomist in collective farms in the Semipalatinsk region from 1960 to 1963. From 1963 to 1967, he pursued his postgraduate studies and worked as a senior researcher at Kazakh Research Institute of Economics and Organization of Agriculture.

Political Career

Abdilidn entered politics in 1974, becoming Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Committee of Kazakh SSR. He held various positions in the agricultural sector and became a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan in 1981.

Leadership of Communist Party of Kazakhstan

From 1987 to 1991, Abdilidn served as the Permanent Representative of the Council of Ministers of Kazakh SSR in Moscow. In 1991, he became Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan. From 1996, he led the Communist Party of Kazakhstan as its First Secretary.

Abdilidn ran for President of Kazakhstan in 1999, securing 13% of the votes and finishing second. He went into opposition and co-founded the Forum of Democratic Forces of Kazakhstan in 1999.

Abdilidn was married to Laura Abdilidna, a professor of economics. They had a daughter, Gaukhar, who is a doctor of medical sciences and philosophy, and a son, Sрым, who is an engineer and doctor of economic sciences. They have three grandchildren.
