Early Life and Career

Serzh Sargsyan was born on June 30, 1954, in Stepanakert, Nagorno-Karabakh. His father was a worker. In 1975, he began working as a turner at the Yerevan Electrical Engineering Plant.

Involvement in Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict

From 1988 onwards, Sargsyan played a significant role in the movement for the reunification of Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia. He became Chairman of the Self-Defense Committee and a member of the State Defense Committee of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) from 1992-93.

Ministerial Positions and Leadership

In 1993, Sargsyan took on the role of Minister of Defense for Armenia, followed by positions as Minister of National Security and Minister of Internal Affairs. From 1999-2000, he headed the President's Office. In November 1999, he became Secretary of the National Security Council under the President.

Prime Ministership and Chairmanship of Republican Party

In 2018, Sargsyan was appointed as Prime Minister of Armenia. A long-serving figure in the government, he had already held various positions for 14 years. He is also the Chairman of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia.

Personal Life

Sargsyan enjoys reading and playing chess, and is the Chairman of the Armenian Chess Federation. He is married with two daughters and one grandson.
