Early Life and Education
Sevil Shhaideh was born on December 4, 1964, in Constanța, Romania. Her parents were Muzezel Jambec, a Crimean Tatar, and Saedin Jambec, a Turk.
In 1987, Shhaideh graduated from the Faculty of Economic Planning and Cybernetics at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies.
Career in Public Administration
After graduating, Shhaideh worked in public administration in Constanța County. She also served as a coordinator for the National Union of County Councils of Romania.
In 2012, she became a State Secretary in the Ministry of Regional Development. From May to November 2015, Shhaideh held the position of Minister of Regional Development.
Political Candidacy for Prime Minister
On December 21, 2016, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats and the Social Democratic Party jointly nominated Shhaideh as a candidate for Prime Minister.
However, on December 27, 2016, President Klaus Iohannis rejected Shhaideh's candidacy. If appointed, she would have been Romania's first female and first Muslim Prime Minister.
Personal Life
Shhaideh's family is Muslim. Her mother is a niece of the Turkish historian Kemal Karpat.
Shhaideh is married to Syrian businessman Akram Shhaideh. As of July 2015, the couple owned three properties in Syria.
