Biography of Shahriyar Mamedyarov
Shahriyar Mamedyarov is an Azerbaijani chess player, an international grandmaster, and the champion of Europe in 2009. He was born into a chess family, with his sisters Zeynab and Turkhan also being chess players. All three of them have been champions of Azerbaijan at different times. Their father, Gamid Mamedyarov, is their coach.
Early Career
Shahriyar Mamedyarov represented the Azerbaijani national team in the match against the World team on May 7-9, 2009, as part of the Azerbaijan President's Cup, named after Heydar Aliyev. In March 2009, he accused Russian grandmaster Kurnosov of cheating (using computer assistance).
Major Achievements
In 2010, at the Tal Memorial, Shahriyar Mamedyarov, along with Sergey Karjakin and Levon Aronian, scored 5.5 points and became one of the tournament winners. However, the organizers distributed the places based on additional criteria, and Mamedyarov finished in third place. In 2012, he won the European Club Cup as a member of the SOCAR Azerbaijan team in Eilat, Israel.
World Champion and Other Victories
In 2013, Shahriyar Mamedyarov became the World Champion in rapid chess in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. He was also one of the winners of the first stage of the FIDE Grand Prix 2012-2013 in London. Mamedyarov has achieved numerous victories in international tournaments, including the ORDIX Open in Mainz, Germany in 2009, the Essent Kroongroep tournaments in Hogeveen, Netherlands in 2006 and 2007, and the Aeroflot Open in Moscow, Russia in 2006.
Junior Achievements
In 2005, Shahriyar Mamedyarov became the World Champion among juniors under 20 in Istanbul, Turkey. He has also won international tournaments in Lausanne, Switzerland in 2005 and San Sebastian, Spain in 2005, as well as the Dubai Open in the United Arab Emirates in 2004.
Overall, Shahriyar Mamedyarov's talent and dedication to chess have led him to become one of Azerbaijan's most successful chess players, with numerous titles and victories to his name.
