Early Life and Education
Shalva Gambashidze was born on July 20 (August 1), 1899, in Zestafoni, Georgia, into a family of a priest. He attended a real school in Kutaisi and graduated from G. Jabadari's drama studio in Tbilisi in 1920.
Theatrical Career
Gambashidze began his acting career at the Batumi Theater in 1921 and then moved to the Shota Rustaveli Theater in Tbilisi in 1928. From 1937 to 1947, he served as the director, artistic director, and stage director of the Kutaisi Theater (later renamed the Marjanishvili Theater in Tbilisi).
