Biography of Sharon den Adel
Sharon den Adel, the vocalist and one of the songwriters of the Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation, was born on July 12, 1974, in Waddinxveen, South Holland. At a young age, she traveled extensively, living in ten different countries with her family. Five years of her childhood, from one to six years old, were spent in Indonesia.
Early Career
At the age of 14, Sharon began her musical career by performing as a vocalist with various bands, including the blues-rock band Kashiro. After one of their concerts, she met Robert Westerholt. Although Westerholt criticized her performance during their first meeting, they later became musical partners and life partners. It was Robert who introduced Sharon to the music of Paradise Lost, which later influenced her own creative work.
Formation of Within Temptation
In 1996, Sharon and Robert, along with several other musicians, founded the band The Portal, which was later renamed Within Temptation before their debut recording.
Personal Life
Sharon den Adel and her partner Robert Westerholt reside in Hilversum, North Holland, and are raising three children: daughter Eva Luna Westerholt (born on December 7, 2005; Sharon performed while pregnant during the tour supporting the album "The Silent Force"), son Robin Aiden Westerholt (born on June 1, 2009, five weeks earlier than planned), and son Logan Arvin Westerholt (born on March 30, 2011).
Interests
Sharon den Adel has a degree in fashion design. In her free time, she enjoys playing badminton, painting, reading fantasy novels, and gardening.
