Biography of Sharon Fichman

Early Life and Career

Sharon Fichman is a Canadian professional tennis player who started playing tennis at the age of five under the guidance of her father, Bobby, a semi-professional tennis player. At the age of 13, Fichman became the champion of Canada in the girls' under-18 category. In 2005, representing Canada at the Maccabiah Games, she won medals in all three tennis disciplines, including gold in singles, silver in mixed doubles, and bronze in women's doubles. That same year, Fichman started competing in adult ITF tournaments and won her first ITF tournament in Ashkelon, Israel.

Junior Career

In 2006, Fichman had a successful junior career. She became the winner of two Grand Slam junior tournaments in doubles, the Australian Open and Roland Garros. She also reached the final of the US Open junior tournament in doubles and the Orange Bowl junior tournament in both singles and doubles. Fichman represented Canada in the Fed Cup and helped the team reach the second World Group.

Professional Career

In 2007, Fichman won her first ITF tournament in doubles in her hometown of Toronto, partnering with another young Canadian player, Gabriela Dabrowski. Throughout 2009, Fichman continued to have success on the ITF circuit, winning two singles titles and three doubles titles. She also reached her first WTA Tour final at the Estoril Open. Fichman made significant progress in the doubles rankings, rising from 432nd place to the top 100.

In 2010, Fichman played for the Canadian Fed Cup team, winning all seven of her matches and helping the team return to the World Group II. She reached a career-high doubles ranking of 83rd and reached the finals of three consecutive ITF tournaments in doubles, winning two of them. Over the next year, Fichman won two ITF singles titles, four ITF doubles titles, and reached her second career WTA final in doubles, partnering with Laura Pous Tio.
