She made her mark in the tennis world when she won the Australian Open Junior Championship in 2008. In order to clinch the title, she had to defeat Australian player Jessica Moore. In the same year, Rus received a wildcard entry into the main draw of the Ordina Open. However, she was eliminated in the first round by Maria Koryttseva. In 2009, Rus was unable to qualify for the Australian Open and faced a series of disappointments in subsequent tournaments. However, her performance improved when she switched to playing on clay courts. She successfully qualified for the Marbella tournament and made it through the first round. She also performed well in the following Grand Slam tournament, winning her first-round match against Olivia Sanchez but losing in the second round to Yaroslava Shvedova.

Throughout the season, Rus played in several tournaments but did not achieve significant success. It was only towards the end of the season that her fortunes changed. She won the Nantes tournament without losing a single set. In 2010, she faced initial setbacks, losing in the qualifiers of the Moorilla Hobart International and the Australian Open. However, she managed to turn things around in the Marbella tournament, and achieved even better results in Estoril by not only qualifying but also winning two matches in the main draw.

Unfortunately, Rus was unable to replicate her success in the US Open, where she was eliminated in the second qualifying round by Kristýna Plíšková, the junior Wimbledon champion. She continued to participate in several tournaments throughout the season, but luck was not on her side. One memorable episode during this period was her match against Michaëlla Krajicek, where she defeated her fellow Dutch player in the Koddaert Ladies Open but lost to her in the final of the Real Tennis Masters.

In 2011, Rus had a productive start to the season by successfully qualifying for the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, the Australian Open. She won her first match in the main draw against Bethanie Mattek-Sands but was defeated by Svetlana Kuznetsova in the second round. Following the Australian Open, she represented the Dutch team in the Fed Cup, winning all her singles matches but unable to save the team from ultimate defeat.

After the Fed Cup, Rus won the doubles event at the ITF tournament in Stockholm with Anastasia Yakimova. However, she was unable to secure the singles title, losing in the final. She faced Yakimova again in the Bahamas Women's Open, but this time, Yakimova emerged as the stronger player. Currently, Rus holds the 78th position in the world rankings of female tennis players.
